Is there a solution? - EXTERNALITIES 2

29/12/2020

In the previous post, I wrote about externalities (external economic and environmental impacts) and the danger they pose to the next generation. If you haven't read it yet, please do it, it's worth it.

If you already know why it is so dangerous to do nothing against externalities, you are already wondering if there is a solution. Maybe you have your own solution too, so feel free to share your thoughts with me and the other visitors.

IMO the collapse of the economy, must be prevented - by preserving biodiversity.

Think about it:

If the Etruscans, who had invented roof tiles three thousand years ago, had planted a seedling for every cut-out tree during tile burning, they would not have wiped out all existing Italian forests in a few hundred years and been forced into long and dangerous trade routes and wars. Planting a tree is much cheaper than going to war or organizing an expedition.

If, at the time of the Industrial Revolution, every businessman had spent a certain amount on building wind turbines, the coal used to move machines would not have become extremely expensive, companies at that time could still be competitive today and we would not be so close to environmental collapse.

We have known since 1920 that externalities, the external economic (and environmental) effects of businesses, should be taxed and invested in a livable future. Unfortunately, this is still to come. In the meantime, what can we do? I will write about this in my post tomorrow where you can read what Ashkatan, my business, is doing for a more livable future.
